One note about Langnau goalie Beekman, is listed on eurohockey.net as Swiss citizenship, and not Dutch.

Surprised at the number of players gone direct from teh NHL to NLA this year, seems like a bit more than in the past. NLA must be doing alright for itself for this to work.

Well, I'm pretty sure eurohockey is wrong with this. As far as I know, Alexander Beekman is Dutch and got a swiss licence. His father works for the medical staff of the Tigers, and he's Dutch. By the way, Beekman isn't a german name at all!

I'm gonna check and I'll let you know!

There have been discussions to the point that Beekman is ineligible to play for the Netherlands because of his never having played hockey there.
We can assume that he at least has Swiss citizenship (Swiss mother, born there), though possibly Dutch citizenship as well through his father.
At the very least, I'd list him as a dual citizen.

The old thread can be found here.

Updated! ;-)

If we believe the old thread, Alexander Beekman is Swiss and Dutch. Otherwise, why did he try to play for the Netherlands?

Anyway, thanks for letting me know :)

We did an interview with his father, Gerard Beekman, a while ago for ijshockey.com. He told us that he moved to Switzerland 23 years ago and married a Swiss lady. Both he and his son have a Swiss and Dutch passport, so Beekman jr indeed has two nationalities.

The reason he was not allowed to play for the Dutch team, is that his mother is Swiss. If both parents would have been Dutch, there would have been no problem. Now the IIHF insists that he play at least two full seasons in the Dutch league before being eligible for the Dutch national team.

Interesting anecdote is that he travelled to Hungary with the Dutch U18 two years ago. The IIHF forbid him to play however because of the reasons mentioned above. He ended up doing statistical work during the tournament.

Zürich Lions have offered Alexei Krutov a try-out contract. The russian offender is the son of ex-ZSC-super star Vladimir Krutov and has got a swiss licence.
Last season Alexei Krutov defended the colors of Severstal Cherepovets (RSL, 18 games played). If he doesn't get a contract for the season in Zürich, he is probably going to play with Küsnacht in the NLB (ZSC's partnerteam).

Jean-Pierre Vigier signs in Geneva

Genève Servette has finalised his roster for the 2007-2008 season. The Eagles yesterday officialized 30-year old Canadian forward Jean-Pierre Vigier from Atlanta Trashers/NHL (total: 213 NHL games)

I'm not surprised. The NLA pays very large salaries, especially when you consider the regular season is only about 45 games long.

Note the number of NLA teams playing games against RSL teams in the pre-season.

I would argue that NLA teams are on par with RSL, Elitserien & SM-Liiga teams at this point.

The NLA is truly an elite league, and, like anything else in professional sports, it's the available money given to top players that makes it that way.

Finally, Genève-Servette will have one more import next season. Juraj Kolnik (SVK, 26 years old, from Florida Panthers/NHL) has signed for one year + option.

wow, another great addition in Swiss hockey

Langnau Tigers have offered to Alexei Doistonov a try-out contract. The 17 years old russian forward has got a swiss licence.
Last season Alexei Doistonov played for 2 different teams; Oiho Junior Blue Jackets in the USHL and Sioux Falls, also in the USHL.

Davide, I sent you a private message concerning this :)

Oh ok, no problem Davide, I didn't know about this thread. Fine for me, I'll post pre-season results on that thread, as of now :)

Cheers

One more NHLer in Swiss NLA!

SC Bern just signs center Patrik Stefan from Dallas Stars. He will be the 5th import Bern.

He is such a bust. I cant believe Stefan once was drafted as first overall. He cant even score in the empty net....
Good luck with him...

Glen Metropolit? He was useless in Atlanta as well... I cant stand this guy even more than Stefan. Stefan at least could win some faceoffs and work on penalty killing unit, but Metropolit?
I remember watching him play some hockey for Thrashers last season and already back then I was thinking, that this guy will soon go to Europe. His fast skating and no grit style didnt quite work in NHL level.

Yes, I agree. Glen Metropolit was a big star in Finland and Switzerland.

So you haven't seen the 1996 or 2004 World Cups?
