Brett Sterling has 33 goals in 32 games played. The AHL record is 70 set in 1988-89 with the Sherbrooke Canadiens by Stephane Lebeau .

It's a long way to go, but kind of fun to follow.

The American Hockey League announced the Canadian and PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team rosters for the 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic, to be played later this month at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto.

The Canadian team comprises players born in Canada, while the PlanetUSA team is made of players born outside of Canada. AHL fans determined the starting lineups via on-line balloting at theahl.com, while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remainder of the rosters.

Andy Bathgate, Hockey Hall of Fame AHL All-Star Classic Honoree, and Steve Thomas, AHL All-Star Classic honorary captain, were on hand for the announcement at the Air Canada Centre this morning. They were joined by AHL President and CEO David Andrews, former AHL All-Stars Peter Laviolette and Eric Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes and Kyle Wellwood of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and current Leafs and former Marlies head coach Paul Maurice.

Thirty-four of the 48 selections are heading to their first AHL All-Star Classic, including team captains Mike Keane of the Manitoba Moose (Canada) and Kip Miller of the Grand Rapids Griffins (PlanetUSA), and standout rookies including Brett Sterling of the Chicago Wolves, Ryan Callahan of the Hartford Wolf Pack, Dustin Boyd of the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights, Drew Stafford of the Rochester Americans, Matt Lashoff of the Providence Bruins and Marek Schwarz of the Peoria Rivermen.

The head coach of the Canadian All-Star team will be Bruce Boudreau, by virtue of his leading the Hershey Bears to the 2006 Calder Cup championship. Boudreau, a Toronto native and former AHL MVP who also played for the junior Marlies and the NHL Maple Leafs, will be making his second appearance behind an AHL All-Star bench. The head coach of the PlanetUSA team will come from the AHL club with the best points percentage after play on Jan. 14.
The 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic will take place at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, home of the AHL's Marlies. The event features the 2007 CCM AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday, January 28 (7:00 ET) and the 2007 AHL All-Star Game on Monday, January 29 (7:00 ET), and will be televised live on Rogers Sportsnet in Canada and on a network of regional broadcast partners in the United States

Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights will be relocated

The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights franchise of the American Hockey League will relocate, the Omaha World-Herald reports.
The Knights came to Omaha in the summer of 2005. They're one of three hockey teams in the Omaha area that battle for audiences.
According to the World-Herald, two sources close to the situation confirmed that the Knights will move, possibly to the Quad-Cities area of eastern Iowa and western Illinois.
The departure of the Knights would leave the Omaha area with two hockey teams _ the NCAA Division I University of Nebraska at Omaha and the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League.
Knights team President Ren Smith said Calgary officials had not informed him of any move. Calgary team President Ken King would neither confirm nor deny the move.

Hershey Bears forward Kip Brennan has been suspended for the remainder of the American Hockey League playoffs following an altercation with a fan during a game last week.
The former NHLer will miss the entire Calder Cup championship series against the Hamilton Bulldogs, which begins Friday in Hershey.
The confrontation involving Brennan and the fan occurred in Hershey's 4-1 road win over Manchester in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference final on Wednesday

The Bears had things well in hand with their 4-1 lead when, with 19.8 seconds remaining, an altercation between a Manchester fan and Hershey’s Kip Brennan broke out.
Brennan was in the penalty box serving the final seconds of a fighting major when the Manchester fan attempted to throw a punch at Brennan through a space in the glass at the side of the penalty box. Brennan responded, finally reaching through and tearing the T-shirt the fan was wearing.
While security officials were rushing to grab the fan, the linesmen stepped into the box to restrain Brennan. Brennan was assessed a gross misconduct penalty before leaving the ice.

Kip Brennan is certainly an idiot but that fan is a huge moron for trying to punch Brennan while he is in the penalty box...I hope the "fan" gets punished as well.

Any word on whether the IceHogs will have any of the players from their UHL squad, or whether the logo will stay the same, or whether the team will still keep its UHL championship banner?

Or is this a brand new organization with the same name as the team that just won the UHL title?

"Lake Erie" is what they are calling it, but the Monsters are playing in the city of Cleveland, Ohio.

I hope that the fan who threw a punch at Kip Brennan got arrested and prosecuted.
