I will be intrestred to see how EHC Basel does this season after having one of the worst NLA Seasons on record. They have a TON OF WORK TO DO before they will probally have a chance of getting back up into the NLA.

Great work on this thread, Bykov-Khomutov!

Here are my questions:

Why do over half of the teams have lion symbols? I love lions and all, but there ARE other ideas out there.

Why doesn't GCK use a grasshopper logo, and just have NLA's ZSC use the lion logo?

@ tanman

That's for sure! If you want my point de vue, I believe they won't play in NLA before 10 or 15 years! Basel isn't a hockey town at all. Before 2003, the last NLA season with Basel was 1962-1963... 40 years without hockey in Basel. And during this period, the FC Basel 1893, one of the best soccer team in Switzerland, won several swiss titles.

@ Marc

Thanks. Actually, I don't know why the lion is so appreciated in Switzerland ;-) The first team which used a lion as logo was Zurich and then Lausanne.
In 2000, after the fusion between SC Küsnacht and Grasshopper Club Zürich, the new club GC SCK Lions became the farm team of the ZSC. Actually, the ZSC bought Grasshoppers in order to avoid the competition to be the first team in Zürich (Kloten = north of Zürich but it's not in the city of Zürich).

Yes he's Albert's son, Dmitri Malgin grown up in Switzerland (Albert Malgin was active as hockey player in NLB between 1993 and 2006) and obtained his first hockey license in Switzerland. He thus evolves as Swiss player even if he has no Swiss passport.
About his skills, really hard to say! I didn't watch any NLB game last season and to be honest, I never watched him at all! But apparently he has potential to be a good NLB player.

Bykov-Khomutov, when I saw your nick for first time, I thought that you are Fribourg fan, not Lugano.

HC Yverdon (1. Liga)

@ Forsberg

I chose this nickname in homage to these players for their talent, not for the club with which they played in NLA.
BTW, I don't like Fribourg!!! They suck!

Well, Evgeni will stay only one week in Lugano and then go back to La Chaux-de-Fonds for the rest or the preseason. After that, he will play the whole season with in NLB.

And no, for a swiss citizen, Geneva isn't soooo nice! I mean, if we compare with the other swiss cities, where you can leave the key in your car, you can leave your door open for the night etc etc.

Does anyone know if Jason Guerriero is playing EHC Visp. I was trying to find his stats for this season and he didn't have any? Did he get injured?

I found some stats on www.hockeyfans.ch (STATS -> Feldspieler -> NLB Quali 08/09, then select Team: Visp), but he was injured in October (strained stomach muscles?), and, as far as I know, has not returned to the team yet.

I think that's true he didn't returned to the team, Visp will wait for the medical bulletin to decide about the future of Jason Guerriero.

Guerriero is 100% fit to play!

Jason Guerriero had muscle spasms in his back, unrelated to any past injury. He is fit and ready to play. EHC Visp Sportchef Sebastien Pico will not allow Coach Fust to play Guerriero. Instead the club risks serious injury to Corey Pecker who continues to play with a shoulder injury. The hockey club currently has three foreign import players under contract. They are refusing to compensate Guerriero even though he is able and willing to perform the duties of his contract.

Not sure as to how many imports but the talent level is decnet. The Rangers player the top Swiss B league team and beat them. The Swiss team did have some injuries, but the Rangers didn't seem to have a problem with them. I would say the level is mid to low level AHL. That is my opinion.
