On average the turnover of the clubs have increased by 20-25% over the past two seasons, but the salary budgets are likely to have increased even more.

As for the salary budgets, I will try to obtain more precise figures as the season approaches. According to my estimates, some of the richest clubs are running salary budgets in the neighborhood of SEK 50 mio., i.e. around US$8 mio. This is a conservative estimate, but its still only half of the salary cap of the Russian KHL (or 2/3's if we use an estimate of SEK60 mio. which I believe is the maximum salary budget in SEL). At this point, I only have the precise figures for Skellefteå which is in the lower end of the scale. Next season, Skellefteå plans to spend SEK36-38 mio. on its salary budget.

Very intressting. Färjestad the riches club makes only a very small profit. I think it do to bad attendens last year only 7.000 at the games. Its not a healthy trend for the club. But the club are still the riches sport club in Sweden but I think Frölunda will take over in a near future.

off-season signings, when possible, are discussed in the "Silly Season" thread.
Looks like a fair signing though, for sure.

Karsten, you stated that the highest SEL budgets are 1/2 or 2/3 of the KHL salary cap, but you surely ment the salary floor. The cap is at 23.5 mio which is almost 3 times better than the 8mio SEL top budget you were talking about...

Right, I was using an older figure from the KHL rules planning. The cap has been raised to rubles 620 mio. (US$22-24 mio. depending on the exchange rate). I don't think it will be possible for the SEL teams to compete with this for a distant future.

The restrictions on how sports clubs can develop their business are too tight in Sweden.

Bo Eriksson of Färjestads managing team demands in this article that Elitserien be closed so no teams are relegated and no teams are promoted. He says that the pressure on the trainers is inhuman and that a closed league will create a better working environment for the teams to build for the future and use more junior players without risking relegation.

Personally, I am very averse to the idea with closed leagues as I think it removes a big part of the "nerve" in the game. I feel that if the economic gap between Elitserien and Hockeyallsvenskan was smaller, then a relegation from Elitserien to Hockeyallsvenskan would not be the financial catastrophy it is today and that would better both for the lower Elitserien teams as well as the top Hockeyallsvenskan teams.

The amount of horse manure this particulary club and its leaders produce is overwhelming. I hope they stroll away to Russia or any other country that wants them participating.

    Closed leagues =

    Comments
This has been a much touted game as it is Johan Holmqvists return to Elitserien after several seasons in NHL. However, he did not perform and was pulled after surrendering 5 goals... All in all, Frölunda underperformed and HV71 looked strong and played for a capacity crowd as usual.

    Comments
The proper season premiere was played tonight and it was all tight races... Especially Brynäs and Södertälje really have their goalkeepers to thank for their wins. Rögle could perhaps notch this down to nerves as they lost a three goal lead. It's good to have the season up and running.

    Comments
Frölunda has started their season with three straight losses, not really what they had been expecting. Meanwhile Rögle has scored 4 pts on their first two games, which must be considered well above par as they have generally been predicted to end up dead last.

Edit Sept 22: Another surprising result today when Brynäs took a solid win over HV71.

They're just looking too far ahead, to their friendly match vs the Ottawa Senators.
Once that game is past they'll settle down and run the table

Can anyone tell me if Joacim Eriksson, goaltender for Brynäs IF J20, is injured?

I don't know, but he hasn't been on the roster for the two games they've played so far. A goaltender from their J18 team has been backup.

I don't know if that means that he is injured or if he is missing for some other reason.

That won´t happen. You can´t win without defending. A good goalie without defence won´t help either.

    Comments
Martin Chabada in Luleå HF managed to get two 5+20 penalties at 59.57 in the game against HV71. One for checking to the head and the other for roughing...

Also notable is the comeback by Brynäs, who was trailing 0-3 coming into the third period but scored 4 unanswered goals to win 4-3.

Wow, Luleå was lucky that it was three seconds before the end. Otherwise they would have had a short handed situation 10 minutes long no matter how many goals HV71 scored...

Not really... Jukka Voutilainen in HV71 had a 5+20 for roughing as well. Still, I did not think that you could get more than one set of 5+20.

The "Little One" continues to rock Elitserien. He was by far the best player in Get-Ligaen, but to honest, I didn't expect this. Amazing. He was never drafted to the NHL, but could he make the jump? Sure, why not? Savard is only 5"9 if my memo severs me correctly.

    Comments
Brynäs continues to excel and surprise all so called hockey experts. They win tonight again and keep their top spot in Elitserien. Luleå struggle hard and has only managed one win in seven games.

A very intressting start of the SEL. Rögle BK the only team from Scania in the Sweden leauge have surprised everyone. Lat night a youngster from the club scored twice and made two ass in the winning game(5-4 in Timrå) against Timrå.

Christoffer Liljewall are only 18 years old and can become a very good player in the future if he can repeat his play. It was his first game in the leauge so its a very promising start.
