It's a schedule, and appears to involve Bat Yam, Haifa, Maalot, Metulla and Rishon Le-Zion again, but also appears to have a sixth team, Rehovot! That's great!

It also looks as if each team only plays 5 games instead of 8........if that is true, then the Israeli League is getting worse instead of better. That would be a major, major shame.

Of course, my Hebrew is awful, so I'm sure Aldair can (and will) do a better job translating than me.

2 more games per season isn't bad, plus one more team in the league is a sign of growth (slow as it may be)

    Hi guys!

That's right, there is one new team - Rekhovot and every team will play 10 games (2 times with each other).

The playoffs is as usual: single semifinals and final games.

There is one remarkable moving also: Edik Revnyaga will play for Metual this season and not for Haifa.

Another good news for israeli hockey is that have been organised some kind of "professional" structure. Referees and other personal will be paid for games. Not much, but still, this money will be enough to coverage travel costs to Metula and back. I also have been proposed to take some position, but unfortunately this year I'm busy too much to make that. Maybe in the future.

See, Steigs, my Hebrew isn't ALL bad. I got something right in terms of the new team being from Rehovot. Heh.

Interesting to see Ravniaga play with Metulla. Will Metulla have any other players over junior age, or just him?

I think that's a roller hockey score, or maybe a junior hockey score.

VERY surprised that Metulla only beat Bat Yam 1-0.

Does anyone have any idea how many guys over 18 years of age are playing for Metulla this season?

So, the season has been started. As you see, Maalot lost 1-4 despite of Revnyaga's return to the club. One of the reasons for the loss - is that their first goalie and our member (and my friend) Vakha became the linesmen and the Chairman of Israel Referees Federatrion (or whatever it's called :)). He worked on all three games, our congratulations to him.

He also promised to me to send all the rosters and different stats.

About Bat-Yam. As far as I understood, it just was the good day for Gussin. And yes, probably Metula seem a little weaker. As a sample, their first goalie started his army service and they will suffer from lack of quality goalies. The shot-out is less due to the good play of Metula goalie, but just because Bat Yam guys were not able to disturb him too much.

And there were really good feedback about the new team from Rekhovot. Despite of quite big loss, they managed to keep score 1-1till the middle of the first period.

Bat Yam has been competitive in 2 out of their 3 games. Normally that's not even close to being the case, despite having the best goalie in Israel in Evgeni Gussin.

I wonder if it is because Bat Yam is improving, or the level of play in the league is declining?

    Aldair, or anyone else?

It will be interesting to see the results of Bat Yam's 2 contests with Rekhovot.

Even duno what to say....I haven't opportunity to see this season games yet..The only thing I know that Gussin didn't play in all the games;the last game they played without him. I'll try to check this, it's really interesting point.

    Scores from 12/14/2007:

    Metula 2, Maalot 1

Haifa Hawks 2, Rishon Le-Zion Devils 2 (Rishon, formerly known as Maccabi Lod, always seems to play well against Haifa)

Bat Yam 6, Eagles Rehovot 3

Good for Bat Yam! That's their first win in what, 3 or 4 years???? 3 goals against by a new team though - was Gusin in net?

The Israeli league sure looks different this year! Bat Yam is more competitive than they've been in years. Many of the game results between the various teams have been close.

Aldair - can you determine whether the level of play in the league has declined, or is improving? Also, can you determine whether Metula is using players over 18 years of age?
Did Gusin play in Bat Yam's win over Maalot?

The standings are as follows (wins listed first, then losses, then ties):

    HAIFA HAWKS: 4-0-1

    RISHON LE ZION DEVILS: 3-0-2

    HC METULA: 3-1-1

    PIRANHAS BAT YAM: 2-3-0

    HC MAALOT: 1-4-0

    EAGLES REHOVOT: 0-5-0

Did Gusin play in Bat Yam's win over Maalot?
Hi, Marc. First of all these two 5-0 results were forfeits. Bat Yam and Maalot were tied 1-1 when team Maalot has denied to follow the referee's decision about Maalot's player disqualification. This player was actually, Revnyaga, that denied to leave the rink. As a result the team was penalted by technical defeat.

But yesm Bat Yam is doing better this year, they got two respictevely strong palyers and Gussin played in the last game also.

About Haifa - Metula. Haifa was leading 2-0 when Metula left the rink and after some debates it was decided to give them forfeit 5-0. Being the fastest team in the league, they play very dirty hockey. When some of the kids were given by 10 minutes penalties each one - they decided to leave the rink. On your question - there are the couple of guys above 18.

And , in general, seems that the league getting a little better. Very slowly, but still. These dicipline problems maybe brought by the fact that only from these season were formed official referee system and staff. It take a while for team to became usual for that..

Thanks for the update, Aldair. The teams are going to have to learn that the referees are in charge, not them.

What was Revnyaga's problem? Very unprofessional of him, especially given that he is one of the league's very best players and a player who competes for the national team.

Aldair, wasn't Vakha going to give you the rosters of the teams? Can you get them?

Yes, Marc, actually, he gave me...But, you know, our league is far from to be professional? so big part of the names typed in protocol are just the private names, without surnames...So it's not much helpful as you see... Anyway, if you wish, I can try to post partial rosters at least.

Let's see them....I'm guessing each team only has 2 or 3 lines. Some of them probably only have 1 goalie.
