    Hi Guys :006: :hockey:
Since this thread has been started by Quebecois,i will continue it with the updated scores etc from this seasons 'bmi-baby'sponsered Elite league :023:
Firstly a result from the challange game between Sheffield Steelers-Hull Stingray.
Sat Sept 2nd: Sheffield Steelers..4 Hull Stingray ...3.
This was the first of a two game series for the SSSC Cup. :nr: sponsored by the Sheffield Steelers Supporters Club to be played over two legs and obviously the combined scores produce the winner, :scratchhe yeah ok.
Anyway Hull took a 2-1 lead into the 2nd period, the Steelers equalised in the 28th minute.Hull then went head in the 37th minute and lead 3-2 at the end of the second.Steelers equalised again 39 seconds into the 3rd and got winning goal at 51.43.The game was littered with penalties as both teams tried to get to grips with the new rules for this season and Hull ended with an astonishing 42 minutes in penalties to Steelers 28 mins. :scratchhe
One other thing,i will hold my hands up and admit that the Stingrays fans turned up in a fair few numbers and i was impressed with the support that they gave their team so all due respect to them :yelclap:
Cant wait to go over to Hull tonight for the return game, should be a great atmosphere in their rink :023:

    Hi Aldair1808.
I believe that the clubs are limited to 10 imports but must have so many British born/trained players.Sheffield have 6 British players and 10 imports.

    Hi Quebecois.
The rosters that you have put on are excellent, but on the Manchester Phoenix one, their coach Tony Hand joined them from being player/coach at Edinburgh Capitals last season.Tony did play for the Steelers some 8 years ago before leaving to join the now defunct Ayr Scottish Eagles.

    Hi Guys :006: :hockey:
Result from Hull last night was Hull Stingrays..4 Sheffield Steelers ..3.
Hull won 1-0 on penalty shots(each team had 3 shots each).
Congratulations to Hull for winning the SSSC Cup :nr: but they didnt actually receive the trophy as we found out that the trophy was to be presented that the next Steelers home game(if they won it!) or if Hull won it,which they did, they will be presented with it at the next Steelers-Hull Elite league game :scratchhe :confused0

Oh well i'm off to Germany tomorrow for an Exhibition Game against Bietingheim Steelers and Sheffield Steelers :023: to be played on Wednesday night.

A maximum of 10 players who require an ITC are allowed per team.

Thanks for the explanation on the cup, we were wondering wha was going on!
In the end we had to borrow cup won by one of the junior teams from the trophy cabinet in the foyer!!

Really surprised on how well Hull played to be honest, and its got the makings of a great team working ethic, Sergiey Kharchenko and Kevin Young reallly impressed for Hull, essier and Maltby for te Steelers

First leg of the grand slam in the bag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and a waring to the fans who thought we would be whipping boys

Just to add on the Slava Koulikov Ukrainien/British status.

He was actually born in Russia, came over here when His Dad Alexandre Koulikov signed for Humberside Seahawks( a fore runner to Hull Stingrays) Slava was about 14 , played in Hulls junior set up for 3 years and then was eligible to be classed as British as the has come through the British Junior system, I think he holds both Ukrainien and British passports as he married a British woman and had a kid to her, he has always plyed in Briain as unrestricted British....... varios Hull teams in what ever they were called that year! Milto Keynes, Solihull, Chelmsford and Dundee

I don't believe that he has a British passport, as I'm sure that was once given as a reason for him not playing in the national team (although that may have changed since). The BNL and EPL definition of an import was a player who hadn't played any u16 hockey in a league goverened by Ice Hockey UK (or the BIHA, the IHUK predecessor). As a result, Koulikov was one of that very rare group of players who didn't qualify for the national team but wasn't classified as an import.

To add to Manchester today - Kiesman retires (to be bench coach, apparently) and is replaced with D-man David Vychodil, wearing 10.

Also, Sheffield roster numbers are Manzano 14, Darby 22, Ricci 6, Gustavson 32, Clouthier 21, Tessier 26, Phillips 20, Hill 25, Sutter 24 and Maltby 11.

I was wrong about Newcastle numbers too - Rich is 18, not 6.

He is definitely not just UK. He is Ukrainian. The debate is whether or not he has ever applied for a passport. Can't find a definite answer, but the last thing I have is a comment from 2 years ago that Koulikov wasn't eligible for the Great Britain national team. That would mean that at that time he did not have a British passport. As I say, things may have changed since, though...

Yeah, but Marty McSorley has also played for GB! Sadly, challenge games for our national team tend to more be about who the team managers are prepared to release than who is actually eligible to play for the national team.

As I say, he may have got a new passport in recent years, but he's certainly played most of his career with a Ukrainian only passport.

    Hi British fellows

I'm currently in Nottingham for a conference and I plan to get the Nottingham home game tomorrow. I have just limited internet access and couldn't find detailed ticket information. So, will it be ok if I just show up at the arena 30 mins before the game and buy my tickets there? And how much will an normal adult ticket (standing room if available) cost? Thanks for your help!

    Hey

Im not a Nottingham fan but I can help. Youll definatly be okay to just turn up, tickets are usually £11ish in the Elite League. And unfortunatly I dont think there is any standing area.

Ops just looked at the date....

    Thanks Tian

I found ou about the details and got to the game, but thanks for your help :023: . Actually everything was pretty easy as the arena is located extremely central.

    My thoughts to the game:

Good crowd (must have been around 3-4000 or so) in a nice arena with a decent atmosphere. Concerning the teams I was surprised that the benches are that short, Panthers iced just 14 (later 13 if I'm correct) skaters, Basingstoke not much more. For me it seemed that the level of play was something like the top teams in the Austrian 2nd league would provide. Also I'd have expected much more hitting.
Thanks to the ref and the new rules I have seen something I think I have not witnessed before in my life: more than a minute or so of 3 on 3 hockey.
But overall the game was entertaining and Nottingham's #12 a really small kid showed a spirited performance which pleased the audience...I guess more of this kind would be needed.

Nottingham is actually a nice city and the University campus is really great. I've been there now for the second time (first in 1990 at national watersport center) and as soon as my bank account has recovered from the British price level (or the overvalued pound?) I will have a good memory from that trip.
