FORMAT & RULE CHANGES

Expansion to 20 teams: Krylia Sovetov has been relegated and replaced by the winner of the Vysshya Liga, Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod and the resurrected Spartak Moscow.

Format: The Season is divided into 3 x 19 games (57 games in total for each team). The first two stages will have the usual format with 5 min OT (4-on-4) after ties in regular time. The third stage, and the playoffs, will however introduce shootout after 10 min OT (5-on-5). The fifth game in the playoffs will keep with continuous 20 min OT. Pretty complicated, and definitively a challenge for out stats software which we will use next season.

Foreign players limit: The number of foreign players teams can dress for a game will be increased from 3 to 4. In cases of dual citizenship, only players who are legable to play for Russia under IIHF rules are treated as Russians. Under RHF regulations, the clubs must pay 1.5 mio rubles (euro 45,000) for each foreign skater.

Foreign goaltenders: 2007-08 will be the last season where foreign goaltenders are allowed. Under RHF regulations, foreign goaltenders will be heavily fined in this last season (9 mio. rubles, or euro 260,000).
