The schedule for the 2008 - 2009 Greek Ice Hockey Championships has been released by EOP (Elliniki Omospondia Pagodromion). The games will take place between May 19, 2009 - June 6, 2009 at the new ice rink in Nea Liosia.

I am a big PAOK fan in any sport they play, but I mainly follow their soccer team.

Hey Bobigh I noticed your Bohemains avatar. I did not know Bohemians had a hockey team. At least I don't remember one when I was growing up in Czechoslovakia back in 1970's. I was only aware of the Bohemians football club.

Greek Champion 2009:

GREEK CHAMPIONS 2009: IPTAMENI ATHENS HC
For the 2nd straight year Iptameni Athens won the GREEK CHAMPIONSHIP beating PAOK 4-1 in the final game of the Playoffs. Iptameni scored 3 unanswered goals early in the game and with George Fiotakis hot under the pipes, had no trouble winning the Championship undefeated once again.
During the regular season and the playoffs this year, Iptameni had 98 goals for and only 4 goals against!
The goals in the final game were scored by Nikos Chatzigiannis, Yannis Koufis, Dimitris Kalyvas and Lazaros Efkarpidis. PAOK's goal was scored by Kostas Kovats.
The Iptameni Captain, George Kalyvas, was named MVP of the Championship, George Fiotakis won Best Goalie and Dimitris Kalyvas took home the Top Scorer award. From PAOK, Nikos Papadopoulos won best defenseman and George Adamidis the fair play award.

We also have to mention the 2 girl teams, who played a short tournament, Amazones and Pegasos. There are are quite a lot girls who have started playing hockey and it won't be long I think before we see them competing at international level.
Rivality between Athens and Thessaloniki, great!!! You can make money on that, maybe interesting fights for fans.

You played amateur fans-of-hockey championship of Greece. If you want to change registration rules, you will have to speak each other about it before.
I'am very happy, that Greece does have a rink and (some) players can practise there, maybe (I don't know how long will be the ice pitch in this big hall). I think, that you really have to build another new halls in Athens and Thessaloniki. And it is interest of whole Hellenic Ice Sports Federation (and I hope that Iptamenoi, PAOK, Avantes... are part of this group.
Congratulations for Iptamenoi to by champion again. And congratulations for PAOK to be second. Results twice 1-4 are great. But still you priority is not to win, but PLAY and PLAY on the IIHF-size rink maybe so closest to Athens and Thessaloniki.
Your priority is playing frieldy matches with neighbours (Turkey, Bulgaria, maybe Israel, Armenia, Georgia...). Now it's contraproductive to speculate about Balkan Hockey League. Firstly you have to build rink, secondly play league and have fans, thidly build junior hockey league or hockey school and after that build something like BHL. Now you can just play Balkan Hockey Tour ones a year. This could be financive sound business.
I saw, that PAOK does have sponsor, bet-at-home or something like that. Thats good. But what about HISF or Greece Ice Hockey National Team, League or another teams?
Maybe my opinions are utopic, but I believe, that this should be the way to go...
This is going to be long long jurney and long long wrangles with ministry of sports...

Hello all,
I want to take this opportunity and congratulate all the teams for their effort in this year Championship.
I also want to stress my disappointment in GoPens and Billo for their posts. This is neither the place nor the time to do this. It only causes harm for Greek Hockey and jeopardizes our hockey program in the IIHF since I know many people occasionally read these posts.
-GoPens: You dont have to stick up for Iptamenoi and the National Team, nor do you have to get frustrated with comments, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
-Billo: You can simply email the people at www.icehockey.gr if you want something changed or disagree. Maybe they too make mistakes. I know that Brice from PAOK has contacted them in the past and everything was sorted just fine.
All we need is to communicate with each other because we all want the same thing, the development of Ice Hockey in Greece.

Development of the game is the biggest hurdle for a hockey program that may or may not have a rink at any given time. Hockey development can take many forms (both Iptameni and PAOK have taken different routes, but I think nobody can argue that both have been successful in keeping or even improving the level of hockey within their respective clubs).
Most importantly though is that when you are a small sporting community, as ice hockey is in Greece (and a few other countries, to whom I have said the same thing as here), developing a young hockey program in a country that does not know the sport takes TIME, EFFORT, and most importantly TEAMWORK from ALL clubs and people involved.
A fractured community will not attract growth. Arguing amongst yourselves will not entice children to want to join you in sport.
Sit and talk out your differences over a beer (maybe non-alcoholic one), then when you're done talking shake hands and get to work growing the sport TOGETHER, because that's really the only way to do it.
Congratulations to all the competing clubs on what appears to be a successful (if short) season, congrats to Iptameni for repeating as champions, and here's hoping that the rink will become a permanent fixture.
For the 5th time in less than 2 years, Greek Ice Hockey is top story on the iihf.com site. The efforts made by the people trying to save the sport in Greece are slowly paying off.
