Suprise, but there is ice hockey in Moldova also!!!
But it's still all about different juniors and amateur team. Right now in Ukraine goes on "Tardepoint Cup" - some kind of tournament that changes frist league competitions this season (http://forums.internationalhockey.net/showthread.php?p=84315#post84315).
The team called HC Moldavia and in the fisrt round they won ukrainian team HC Zaporozhie 8:5!!
Oh happy day! Ukrainian junior teams might want to make note of that result... To me it is encouraging that Moldova and Georgia already have junior teams and not just an amateur men's league.
So Modlavia showed very good result by taking third place at Treidpoint Cup annual tournament.
Interesting that their defender K.Maltsev was awarded as the Best Defender!

Do velké rodiny světového hokeje se chce začlenit Moldávie. V této bývalé republice Sovětského svazu byl založen hokejový svaz, příští rok by měla být vybudována nová hala v Tiraspolu. Na územní Moldávie leží dosud jen jeden zimní stadion. Stojí v hlavním městě Kišiněvě a do jeho hlediště se vejde pouhých sto diváků.

In Moldova the National federation on ice hockey is created.
The president of the organization was elected by the president Michael Garev. It is necessary to note, that in Moldova there is while only one covered skating rink - in Kishinev. It has been opened in 2006. The size of an ice field 25х40 meters. Around of a skating rink the tribune calculated on 100 places is located. The ice arena in Tiraspol will be shortly constructed
Great news!!!! Now Hope Moldova will submit shortly affiliation at IIHF.

Didn't a Moldovan club participate in a low division of Ukrainian ice hockey these past years? Or Romanian?
It would be great to see them join the IIHF and work to seriously build up the sport there, and eventually maybe participate in world championships.

I just came back from a holiday in Moldova and stumbled across the ice rink in Tiraspol by mistake. I was looking for somewhere to change my Rubles back and followed a sign into an ice rink.
The rink does indeed look very new and has seating for around 1,000 I'd guess. I didn't get that much of a chance to look around so didn't notice if there was a scoreboard or such but there were adverts on the boards and a couple of women figure skating. There was also the signposted currency exchange booth which is surely a first for an ice rink.
I know that we're meant to stay away from politics on this board, and with good reason, but one can hardly talk about Transnistria/Pridnestrovie without mentioning politics so I hope the moderators will understand.
For those who don't know, Transnistria sees itself as separate from the rest of Moldova. To enter you have to pass through a customs point and fill in an immigration card. They have their own currency, stamps, flag, anthem etc. It's run by a chap called Igor Smirnov who holds considerable power.
In Tiraspol there is one of the best football complexes in Europe, it has all weather and indoor pitches, a five star hotel and a 16,000 seat stadium. Members of the Scottish Football Association gave it a glowing review when Scotland played there shortly after its opening. This project obviously cost Transnistria a huge amount of its GDP which shows that Smirnov is quite happy to sink a lot of money into sport. If he decides that he wants to see decent hockey in Tiraspol then he's in a position to make it happen. The ice rink would not have been built if he had no interest.

La festivitate au fost prezentate doua echipe de juniori, pregătite de antrenorul rus Aleksandr Uliankin. ''Sper mult ca peste câţiva ani, cineva dintre membrii clubului să joace în campionatele Rusiei şi chiar din SUA şi Canada. Sprijinul acordat de părinţii copiilor care au decis să practice hocheiul este enorm'', a declarat tehnicianul.
Antrenorul activează la Chişinău, din octombrie 2008, cu sprijinul financiar al federaţiei de specialitate din Rusia.
În prezent, clubul numără 35 sportivi. În cadrul lui activează şi o fată, Ana Fedisin. Ea evoluează pe postul de portar

First Ice Hockey club from the Republic of Moldova, Dinamo Chisinau, was inaugurated, Thursday at the skating rink Ice Bravo, says the Agency Moldpress, quoted by Agerpres.
At the festivity, there were presented two junior teams, prepared by the Russian coach Aleksandr Uliankin. "I hope that in a fiew years, some member of the club will play in the Russian championship, even in USA or Canada. The support we got from the children's parents that decided to play hockey was enormous", said the technician.
The coach is active at Chisinau, since October 2008, with the financial support of the Russian Hockey Federation.
Now, the club counts 35 players. With the club there is also a girl, Ana Fedisin. She plays the goaltender position.

După Cupa "ICE MAGIC", desfăşurată la sfârşitul lunii februarie, antrenorul echipei de hochei pe gheaţă CSH Ice Magic, Cristi Mănăilă, afirma:" Se putea şi mai mult la acest turneu, dar se cunoaşte lipsa de experienţă, lipsa jocurilor".
Au trecut patru săptămâni de atunci, perioadă în care buzoienii au susţinut mai multe partide de verificare, şi acest lucru se vede deja în jocul echipei.
Elevii săi au devenit de la meci la meci mai încrezători în forţele proprii, cunoştinţele acumulate dându-le speranţe pentru jocurile oficiale.
Progresul echipei s-a văzut şi în ultimul meci amical susţinut de buzoieni la Galaţi în compania echipei Dinamo Chişinău. |ntâlnirea s-a încheiat la egalitate, scor 4-4, golurile formaţiei noastre fiind înscrise de Radu Clonţ-2, Călin Nedelcu-1 şi Alexandru Masgraz-1.
"Un meci foarte bun, combinativ, în care elevii mei şi-au creat multe ocazii de gol, însă au şi ratat la fel de mult. Pentru prima dată de la înfiinţarea acestei echipe, sunt mulţumit de cum au jucat. Un progres vizibil, datorat în primul rând meciurilor de verificare.", a declarat Cristi Mănăilă, antrenor Buzău.
