NHL.com has written an article about Greek hockey. http://www.nhl.com/features/pond/greece092806.html
It seems there is light at the end of the tunnel and Greece is even trying to get back into World Championships in 2008!

Big props to NHL.com and Bill Meltzer for these Across the Pond articles. Giving an international viewpoint to hockey is something I didn't expect from NHL's website. Thank you for proving me wrong.
(only problem is that the Greek article continues with "an excerpt" of the Slovakian article)

They must have used the same template and forgot to delete the last eight paragraphs of the Slovakia article. I'll make sure it gets fixed.

These articles are a dream come true for me to write, and I must also say that this forum is a constant source of education and inspiration for article ideas.

BTW-- I see you're from Janne's home village in Finland! Not sure where he'll end up this season. I always enjoy interviewing Niinimaa because he shoots straight about how he sees things.

Wow, cool! I had no idea you were a member here (though I have seen your nick around). Nice to see that our forum has members that are involved with hockey in so many different ways.

Anyway, truly great work those articles. Keep it up!

Yep, Janne's from Raahe and he even played for Kärpät Oulu (closest SM-Liiga club to Raahe) as a junior and during the lockout. I have followed his career with interest and have been sad for his decline in recent years. His salary with the Stars is pretty big so he probably won't (can't) be traded away. Hopefully he'll get good ice time in Dallas!

I don't want this to stray too far off topic, but I will say I was a little surprised by Janne's struggles to adapt to the new rules last year.

Back to Greek hockey for a second-- thank you, Dimitris, for all your time and patience participating in the article.

Haha, Superman reveals his alter-ego! :claphands

As I mentioned to FlyBear, er, Mr. Meltzer, a few months ago, these articles are great for educating people who otherwise do not know much about hockey in certain countries. I have thoroughly enjoyed each article and applaud him for his work! :023:

I have no doubts that with enough hard work, even the political system can be made to help out (or otherwise completely ignored). Look at what they did with hockey (inline) in Namibia! Or what they're working on in Argentina, I have no doubt that with enough effort it can come together.
