View Full Version : Georgia to start Ice Hockey play again!
Guys.
Here is an interesting article I found in Russian
http://www.webtelek.com/news.php?url=/news/2006/12/27/hockey/
Here is the text Google translated:
In February 2007, in Georgia, the first start since 1986 soccer country championships. The tournament will include five teams from Georgia and one from the village of Bakuriani, located 200 kilometers from Tbilisi. The cities are two operating in Georgia roller from which will be held next cup.
According to the President of the Federation of hockey Georgia (FHG) Denis Davydov, in the near future the country will be built a few more rollers including Ice Palace in Tbilisi capacity of 3 million people. "In 1982-1986 in Georgia, a number of championships republic Ice Hockey nut-quoted Davydova edition of the Soviet Sports." Then, for a number of reasons championships ceased. Now, we intend to revive hockey, the more that we have a lot of fans and fans of this sport. "
FHG President also noted that the already prepared documents for Georgia's accession to the International Hockey Federation (IIHF). Davydov expects adoption of the IIHF in 2007, and a year later coached Georgia could start in the third division tournament selection World Cup. In recent months, Georgian coaches advises Canadian specialist Patrick Fraizer.
In addition, FHG maintains contact with the hockey federation of Armenia and the very near future to establish a relationship with their counterparts in Russia, Ukraine and the Baltic States.http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.webtelek.com%2Fnews.p hp%3Furl%3D%2Fnews%2F2006%2F12%2F27%2Fhockey%2F&langpair=ru%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools
Three questions about the translation (weird parts in bold).
1) the first sentence in bold doesn't make sense. 5 teams in Tbilisi maybe or is Bakuriani not in Georgia?
2) is "roller" being mistranslated (maybe means rink)
3) capacity of the Ice Palace will be 3,000 or there is 3 million people in Tbilisi?
Very good news! Especially the last two paragraphs. :claphands

Awesome news, hopefully this does go somewhere and not into another Azerbaijan. I'm all for more countries getting involved and even more so when they are ex-Soviet nations (seeing the great legacy they had).
Bakuriani is best known as a Georgian skiing resort with an average January temperature of -7'C. As a result, I wouldn't be surprised if the Bakuriani team will be playing outdoors. The other teams are probably Tbilisi based, much like Armenia's league which is heavily represented in Yerevan (3 of 4 teams, from what I know).
Number two, roller is mistranslated as rink. I had to look it up with PROMT translator, which had "rinks(rolls)". Compare translations if you want here; http://www.translate.ru/url/tran_url.asp?lang=ru&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.webtelek.com%2Fnews.php%3Furl %3D%2Fnews%2F2006%2F12%2F27%2Fhockey%2F&direction=re&template=General&cp1=NO&cp2=NO&autotranslate=on&psubmit2.x=58&psubmit2.y=17
For number three, Tbilisi has a population of about 1,100,000 (as of 2005) people in Georgia's 4,661,000 population. A rink to support 3 million spectators seems a bit much, don't you think? 3,000 sounds about right, as seen in the PROMT translation.
All data, surprise, surprise, courtesy of wikipedia.

Yuo are ablolutelly right; and yes, there told about 3, 000 not 3 millions of course.
And yes, it must be Tbilissi - Georgia was just a typo.
This Championship will start in February with 4 teams from Tbilisi and one team from Bakuriani (KazakhEagles is right, that's ski 'ort 200 km from Tbilisi). The reason there would be only two cities is simple,- there're just two rinks in Georgia.
Maybe this rink will be loketed in mountains and all Highlanders will be watching the game!!! :drink2:
I think, that will be the rink for 3000 seats (there're about 1,5 million people in Tbilisi, and 4,4 millions in the whole Georgia). :smart:
Georgia is interesting in joining ice hockey family. In february there starting league with 4 teams from Tblisi and one from Bakuriani.
The last year they played hockey in Georgia was 1986 when USRR exist. Georgia has wish to became member of IIHF in 2007 and take part in division III WC in 2008.

Has someone an e-mail adres and logo of the federation?

Any news and/or results of this championship?
I've not found any results, but have got some information about Georgian players in Russian Leagues: two Goaltenders Georgy Gelashvili (he's an ethnic Georgian, was born in Tchelyabinsk, Russia and lives here for the whole of his life, plays for Traktor, Tchelyabinsk) and Alexander Kavalashvili (Metallurg, Serov).
BTW, Georgia celebrates it's 45-year anniversity this year, so I hope we'll hear about new generation of Georgia players and progress in the GFH!!!
Maalot's goalie is also georgian:) Seems that main gergian talents are goalies:) Next Hasek will be form Georgia:D

It was an interview with Denis Davydov (Georgia Ice Hockey Federation President).
http://www.hockey.dp.ua/images/079-1.jpg
The most interesting part was that Denis had told about the format of Georgia championship that starts soon.
It will be more like "mini-hockey" tournament. 4 teams are in:
Mimino Bakuriani
Rytzary L'da (Knights of Ice) Tbilissi
Ognennye Krestonostsy (Fiery Crusaders) Tbilissi
Serye Volki (Gray Wolfs) Tbilissi
There are no big rinks in Georgia, therefore the teams will play 3 on 3 plus goalie. THe tournament will be played during all 2007 year and in Januar 2008 there will be playoff on the (only?) big rink in Bakuriani. If the tournament will be succesfull, Georgia probably will applicate to play at the IHWC Div.III 2008.
And also Mimino played the last game in Dnepropetrovsk on May, 09. This time they got a tie with "Dneprovskie Volki-93" 2:2.

Would the IIHF accept Georgia's application to play that late into the year? I didn't even hear of them gaining membership to the IIHF in the first place.
Georgia is not an member of the IIHF yet. propably in 2008!!
Would the IIHF accept Georgia's application to play that late into the year? I didn't even hear of them gaining membership to the IIHF in the first place.
Wouldn't have thought so. They would be giving Luxembourg only 2 months notice that they were playing. Also, changing the number of teams from 5 to 6 completely changes the playing format. In a 6 team tournament, the competition takes place over 7 days with 2 complete rest days. In a 5 team tournament, the competition takes place over 6 days with no rest days (i.e. no days where there is no hockey, although each team will get 2 non-playing days each over those 6 days). Therefore, the impact of adding a team at such late notice should not be discounted.
And the problems that Georgia will have getting visas shouldn't be dismissed. Georgia actually have a lower GDP per capita than Armenia. Therefore, I doubt that the Luxembourg immigration authority would be too happy at such a late change.
Graham.
Another article from Dnepr Wolki site (automatically translated) about georgian camp in Dnepr.
Basically same infos of Rowan interview but some other interesting infos
From April, 29th till May, 9th in Dnepropetrovsk the team from exotic Georgia in hockey sense stayed. However, completely not national combined team as announced it the Russian mass-media, and a youthful team "Мимино", consisting of players 1990-93 Georgian "Falcon" ("мимино" in a Georgian way it is translated as "falcon") has been presented by players from Tbilisi and Бакуриани, and the president of federation of hockey of Georgia Denis Davidov headed delegation.
The purpose of arrival of visitors from the southern country became контрольно-training gathering before the first national championship (last hockey championship in Georgian ССР has been lead in far 1986 year!) And to a debut of a national team in III Division of world championship. As in Georgia there are no own skating rinks with an artificial ice, Georgian Federation considered a variant of carrying out of such gathering in Czechia, however (rent of an ice, residing) visitors have quite satisfied the conditions offered днепропетровцами. Besides has not remained "Мимино" and without game practice - twice, on May, 4th and 9, they have crossed sticks with " Dneprovski Volki 93 " and if in the first meeting have conceded to more tempted owners with the invoice 3:5 in repeated game could achieve a honourable drawn game - 2:2. The Georgian hockey players have shown decent enough driving, and the most important huge desire to play. Even at obvious flaws in technicsand tactics, with such thirst of struggle to contenders of this team will have completely not simply... That has confirmed a match with amateur a team "Днепротехсервис" on May, 5th in which "Мимино" has conceded all in one washer - 5:6.
In the end of the Dnepropetrovsk gathering President FGH Denis Davidov has shared with a site hockey.dp.ua plans for a forthcoming season, - " In this year we begin the national championship. At us, unfortunately, is not present big hockey площадок, therefore tournament will be mini-hockey and will take place in a format 3 on 3 field players plus goalkeepers. Four teams will participate : already known to you "Мимино", and also Tbilisi " Knights of an ice "," Fiery Crusaders " and conformable with yours, " Grey Wolves ". And in January of 2008 year, already on the big skating rink in Bakuriani, will take place tournament playoffs in which the champion of Georgia will be certain.
Carrying out of national championship is a mortgage of that we shall make an application on the introduction into the international federation of hockey. Accordingly, in 2008 we shall start in the world championship in the third Division with such teams as Armenia, Turkey, Mexico, Luxembourg, the republic of South Africa"
Besides the head of the Georgian hockey has noted carrying out of gathering in Dnepropetrovsk and has accepted the invitation to participation in the future season of the Georgian teams in amateur tournament "Днепротехсервиса" and in children's " the Cup of Dnepr ".
So, according to Davydov, Georgia will apply at IIHF for 2008 and next league will be a 4vs4 tournament such as in Qatar or Singapore

If this is the case, I do not understand at all why the "season" is going to held over a year's time. Wouldn't it make more sense to play in the winter?

President opens aeronavigation control tower and ice house in Batumi
Georgian President arrived in Batumi yesterday evening opening two serious objects in the seaside region of Georgia. Saakashvili went to the reconstructed internatioal airport of Batumi, where he opened a aeronavigation control tower, which is equipped with the modern equipments and it automatically provides planes departure and landing. President also awarded two staffers of the the aero-navigation with honor prizes.
Afterwards the president went to the Batumi Ice House, which was arranged on 3,000 square meters and the state budget allocated 1,500 GEL for its construction. The figure skating stadium will be capable for hosting Olympic events and other international sport competitions. Students of the Tbilisi figure-skating school performed the first show yesterday. The Batumi skating stadium is much larger than the one in Tbilisi.
Bakuriani, Batumi, and Tblisi all have rinks now it seems, as opposed to none at all. Sure, the Batumi rink isn't open but if the president is there to do the opening of construction then it probably will happen. Is there any information on the constrution schedule?
I think once the rink is built, the Georgian league could go on a Mongolian league set up where all the teams play a round robin at each rink. In my opinion that is the best solution for a poor country just developing their hockey as it reduces total travel costs, increases the number of games played at a venue over a shorter time which can attract people to pay to watch, as opposed to just one game. I suppose the fault is that each team only gets one home round robin, but the "season" is year-long, not a winter based so each team could host more than one.
Friendly tournaments with Armenia, whom they are in contact with, should be arranged between club teams. Call it the Caucasus Cup if you like.

Hi Paddy and welcome here!
It's a pleasure have a voice inside georgian federation!
Plese give us more details about planning league: teams partecipants, programs, popularity and level of hockey here in Georgia, online resources etc.
Paddy, if there is a logo of georgian federation?
Hi Paddy
I would also add all Teams to hockeyarenas.net
Can you help with the Team Logos etc ?
I will answer most of your questions if I can help.
The avatar is the Georgian Ice Hockey Federation Logo.
The current system in the Georgian Ice Hockey System is 3 on 3 hockey with one goalie, games are played in Tbilisi because of the small ice surface. The 3 on 3 system is very fast paced. Games consist of 10 minute periods followed by 5 minute intermissions. In Bakuriani, they have a North American standard ice surface, so teams will play the 5 on 5 followed by 20 minute periods. Tbilisi has 2 small ice surfaces, Bakuriani has one North American standard outdoor surface and Batumi just build a large ice surface, I have not been to see the surface in Batumi yet. The League consists of 4 teams, 3 from Tbilisi and 1 from Bakuriani.
Of course, being a Canadian and knowing that ice hockey is like a religion in my country we are trying to improve the standard in which we play the game. I have now been involved for over a year, and the Federation has been in operation for 2 years. It is my hope that we can receive some sponsorship to upgrade the facilities, and to provide the kids wanting to play the game with good equipment and other materials necessary to promote and grow the game in Georgia.
Anyone who would like to contribute or help with sponsorship or donations please do not hesitate to contact me.
Any plan about join IIHF and partecipate to World Championship?
Any internet resource?
We are currently working out the details and have been told that the application has been sent to the IIHF. Currently working web site will post when I have further details. I am currently in Canada at the moment so waiting for the information to get to me.

All sounds good Paddy, good luck!
Is there a plan to bring some imports in Georgia? Mainly to improve level and teach hockey? Shouldn't be difficult from Russia or Kazakhstan, a little bit harder from Canada, US or Europe I presume
A good question, and I hope that we can do this. The one thing that Georgia needs, especially in Tbilisi, is a standard size rink, and the ice is terrible and not maintained too well. There is so much that Georgia needs in the way of a good arena. With this I think imports would be gald to come and help with the game.

Hey Paddy,
About how many players will be on each team? And what is the age range of these players?
Are there websites of hockey in Georgia to follow the championship ?
Sorry to everyone for the delay, currently there are no websites for Georgian Hockey but we hope to correct that this year. We currently have 4 teams, with 9-12 skaters on each team and one goalie.
Sorry to everyone for the delay, currently there are no websites for Georgian Hockey but we hope to correct that this year. We currently have 4 teams, with 9-12 skaters on each team and one goalie. Is there an approximate number of native Georgians, dual citizens, imports, or Georgian-(insert citizenship here)?
Thanks in advance.
We currently have on man from Belarus, myself from Canada and the rest of the players are Georgian. A few of the men have also played in Russia and the old Soviet Union.
Here si the update of the situation from Paddy. He sent it via mail to our another member and my close friend Vakha.
Currently we have a champions league which has 4 teams, 3 from Tbilisi and 1 from Bakuriani, the range of age varies due to lack of players, but it is growing. The system works 3 on 3 with one goalie 10 minute periods. The ice is very small here in Tbilisi so hard to play a full game. Bakuriani does have an outdoor rink which is North American size. We are hoping for sponsorship and to build an ice rink here in Tbilisi.
There are maybe close to 100 kids that participate in Tbilisi for various programs to learn hockey, as I coach, train and help develop the sport here. I hope that we can get to Isreal to play but I think we would require sponsorship from someone. Our current plans are to take a mens team in February to the Ukraine and a kids team to a place in Siberia for a tourneyment with 2 European teams, one or two Russian teams and a local team from Siberia.

sketchy about past. it's third attempt. the first was in 1961 and the second around 1986. but this time it will succeed - it's my gut feeling - people & world are now different in many ways - and you'll see GEO ranked around 25th by 2018

Sorry everyone have not been on for quite some time, I am currently trying to develop a web site for our hockey here in Georgia. The best men's players will play in the Ukraine next month, and we are sending a kids team to participate in Tyumen, Russia from the 21st of March until April 3rd. Good luck to everyone. Not sure if the season has ended for the league yet, hope to find out. Logos can be found soon through pictures on the web site, and fiery crusaders are only team without a logo. I see one of our other members from Georgia Qvanjobis_Komagi had all the stats and team info, unfortunately I can't get the site working. Hope he can let us know. the site will be www.georgianhockey.com. Will be trying to add to it often as information presents itself.

Too bad Moldova is not at the tournament. I would love to see a match between Georgia national team and Moldova national team. Maybe in IIHF World Champs C-group next season?
In May 2008 is planned to organize the first tournament Cup of Dnipropetrovs'k Region (this tournament will replace traditional Tradepoint Cup). Probably there can there will be Moldova and Georgia. Unlike Georgia Moldova has a problem with senior players. In Moldova there is no Ice Hockey Championship, and the club Solar Moldova Chişinău on tournaments in Ukraine basically consists of the Ukrainian players. But if players born in Moldova and playing to Ukraine, Russia and Romania want to play for the national team - it will be fine. Then Moldova can participate in the World Championship (Div. III). At present in Moldova there are children's teams which participate in many tournaments in Russia and Ukraine.
Therefore for a match Georgia-Moldova it is necessary already now for representatives of both Ice Hockey Federations to send faxes or call (+38 056 232-39-00, +38 056 372-75-05, +38 067 285-78-26) to Dnipropetrovs'k with the request to make their participants of the future tournament... :c032:

C-group.... Moldova vs Georgia in Division II?
A-B-C-group ended years ago already!
Is Moldova even IIHF member?
Is Moldova even IIHF member?
Negative. I didn't even know of the Solar team, but I did see a picture of a referee taking a puck from a goalie wearing a Bravo Chisinau jersey.

As me it is more important as at Moldova and Georgia (http://forums.internationalhockey.net/image.php?u=2736&dateline=1183694227) has National Ice Hockey Federations. Thanking it in Moldova children's ice hockey develops, and in Georgia there plays the National Championship on ice hockey. And following step will be obligatory membership in IIHF.
Also it is necessary will agree, that it better than at first to begin member IIHF not to have thus any hockey clubs, any good hockey player, and available skating rink to use only for skating and short-track, as it was made by many countries members IIHF.
Website is now www.georgianhockey.com. I will be adding to the site when I can so please be patient. please check it out and give me your opinions on the site.

From the roster Qvanjobis posted, it looks to be a true Armenian team without the "Urartu" names. This really works for both nations and it is good to see ice hockey develop in the Caucasus.
Sure there would be some intensity with Armenia, but it would be nice to see Azerbaijan get involved in one of these tournaments in the near future. If the Borjomi Cup is a success, could there be more local tournaments?
Is there a tournament website or online coverage or will all infos just be posted here?

Is the game postponed due to the Armenian federation possibly being frustrated by the performance inbalance and the fight, and thus taking their team home?
Great result for Bakuriani and it says alot about the Armenian junior program. To me, it suggests that Georgia would be useful to have in the IHWC. Has their been any discussion of joining the IIHF and playing internationally?

It also tells me just how true the results of the Armenian national teams' blowout losses were, and just how much of a ringer-filled roster they had pulled together to be able to even keep games close, nevermind win any, in the years following those blowouts.

reason for postponement was an excessive snow = puck hardly slided
armenians called some extra players from home = they did not expect that *mimino bakuriani* was so smart
about joining iihf = Georgia are to build step by step: domestic three-team league, formation of national team, already two visits to ukraine, now this international competition
to me, who watches ice hockey since 1968 Grenoble games, they are already good enough to join *group 3* at worlds, but the guys want to lay the solid foundations first, and secure some, minimal assistance from state
On 12th April 2008 Georgia will start in IV-th International Tournament of SPG "Dniprotekhservis". The national team will consist of the best players of the Georgian hockey clubs. great news for georgian hockey!! Will caucasian hockey league (oh well...another CHL....) started from next season or is just a project?
Any chance that Bosnia could get involved. They seem to have been rather isolated since losing to Greece last year.
Geoff
Caucasus Hockey League.. I like the concept, though I'm not sure if Serbia (Panonian League plus their own home championship) would be interested in that one. Bulgaria might, but seems to me they have other options that would require less travel (crossing a sea, after all, is not cheap)
Though a joint Georgian/Armenian league would probably help boost the sport in both places, for sure.

Would be nice if the Azeri federation would get some hockey going, though the whole Nakhchivan issue might cause some difficulties for the Armenians in the a Caucasus league.

No chance an Azeri team will go to a tournament in Armenia and vice-versa. Serbia and Bulgaria are pretty far away. Maybe a Turkish team(s) will take part.
I think it might be called the KHL since it will probably be written in Russian:c032:

For this year?!? Seems both late and early (for Georgia) to prepare such a trip. If they play, I wouldn't complain and wish them the best. Maybe Armenia has a plot to disallow visas to everybody but Georgia :c032:

Or Armenia figures that without having any ineligible players in their roster, playing against Georgia would give them a chance at a win :c261:
On a serious note though, it's right next door so to speak, so it would be a great chance for Georgia to get their feet wet in the Worlds.
And the full-size rink is amazing news, great to hear it!

a short translation with Google:
FEDERATION OF GEORGIA AND ARMENIA established CAUCASUS Hockey League
President of the Federation ice hockey Karen Khachatryan convened press conference today said that the Federation, Georgia and Armenia have jointly established the Caucasus league ice hockey, which involves competition between Armenian and Georgian clubs in the round robin.
«As for rumors that the Armenian hockey clubs should take part in the championship of Georgia, it is a consequence of distortion of information.
In fact, the Federation of Georgia and Armenia have jointly established the Caucasus league ice hockey, which involves competition between Armenian and Georgian clubs in the round robin.
This decision was taken due to lack of a large number of Armenian and Georgian clubs. The tournament will be held in three circles:
in Yerevan, Bakuriani and Batumi. In case of need will be held as 4 circle.
It is possible that in future the league expanded to be involved clubs from Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria », - said Khachatryan
According to Khachatryan, is also planned in conjunction with the Georgian national team trainer collection and two friendly matches in the interval November-December ...

Im deeply saddened by this news, to me both Georgian and Aremian Hockey was on the up and these great man were hugely responsible for that uprising.
As Qvanjobis said hopefully the hard work done by Lasha, Denis and Karen is continued and Caucasian Hockey in general continues to grow.
R.I.P
The tragic news reached me in Canada, and was a complete shock to me. I am deeply saddened by this tragedy, and my condolences go out to all three families. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families in this very difficult time. I did not know Karen, the Armenian Ice Hockey Federation President, but I am sure that he is irreplaceable and has contributed greatly to the Armenian Ice Hockey Federation. I have worked with both Denis and Lasha and with the Georgian Ice Hockey Federation. I know all the hard work, dedication, commitment, and enthusiasm that Denis and Lasha have put into the Georgian Ice Hockey Federation. Their energy and commitment have brought Georgia to the world through the IIHF. Lasha and Denis not only were great ambassadors for ice hockey in Georgia, but to many kids and adults in the Georgian Ice Hockey Program, they were great teachers and mentors. Their contributions both on and off the ice are immeasurable. I hope that the ice hockey program will continue to grow and develop in Georgia. I hope that everyone involved in the Georgian Ice Hockey Federation knows that I will help in any way I can to help.

Georgia have already tasted 'international' action, way back in 1962...
In March 1962, while Georgia was still a part of the USSR, and in their first tournament ever, they beat Armenia 11-2 at the Winter Spartakiad in Sverdlovsk, Russia. There were another 9 teams at this tournament. Georgia ended up 10th out of 12, with Kyrgyzstan 11th and Armenia 12th. Kazakhstan finished 5th.
It would be great if anyone knows anything else about this tournament. I am not sure exactly where this post should go, but as it is related to the previous post, I thought I would put it in the Georgia section for now.
A bit of further research has revealed the following:
1962 Winter Spartakiad, Sverdlovsk, Russia
3-11 March 1962
Participants:
Moscow (Gold medal)
Leningrad (Bronze medal)
Russia (without Leningrad and Moscow players)
Ukraine
Belarus
Kazakhstan (5th)
Georgia (10th)
Kyrgyzstan (11th)
Armenia (12th)
+ 3 others (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia?) Around this time, Karelia also entered separate teams in other sports at the Spartakiads, so they might have been one of the teams.
1966 Winter Spartakiad, Sverdlovsk, Russia
March 1966
1974 Winter Spartakiad, Sverdlovsk, Russia
March 1974
1978 Winter Spartakiad, Sverdlovsk, Russia
March 1978
1982 Winter Spartakiad, Krasnoyarsk, Russia
4-16 March 1982
1986 Winter Spartakiad, Krasnoyarsk, Russia
24 February-11 March 1986
Winners: Belarus
1990 Winter Spartakiad, Kiev, Ukraine
March 1990
Another result from 1962:

The Armenian National Team will be in the USA for 2 exhibitions in the Los Angeles area in 2010.
Feb 26th at the Pickwick Gardens, Burbank against the College of the Canyon Cougars.
March 10th at the Pickwick Gardens Against Loyola Marymount.
Armenia will be hosting the Division IIIb World Championships in Yerevan, Armenia this upcoming April 2010.

BTW- Bogosian is only playing with Team USA even though he did not make the Vancouver squad.
I feel a need to ask: will there be any ineligible players on this year's Team Armenia again?
Or do all players who've been nominated to the team actually have only one citizenship (Armenian), or otherwise have actual records of having played the requisite two years in Armenia, as per IIHF requirements? (I ask this because, as you'll certainly recall, there was evidence of some 20 players found to be ineligible between the U20 and senior squads just two years ago)

But they do NOT use the same alphabet. :c215:
Mate, I grew up using both languages, and they do.
The French language adds accents to vowels in a few cases, but the alphabet itself is the same 26 letters for both languages.
I was jus tstating a simple fact. English uses 'Tbilisi', French uses 'Tbilissi'.
The alphabets are the same, yes - but the sounds that the letters of the alphabet represent are not. This is the essence of transliteration. For example, 'J' in french is a completely different sound from 'J' in English.
'Tbilisi' in French would be pronounced "Tbilizi", with a Z sound - hence why it takes a double 'ss'. It would also be possible to write "Tbiliçi", but the two Ss was chosen as the best way to transliterate by whoever decides these things for the French language, whereas in English, only one 's' is used.
So, anyway - was just for information - if people want to keep writing Tbilissi, so be it - just saying that it's the French transliteration, whereas everything else seems to be transliterated into English.

Georgia has finished playing it's exhibition matches against South Africa and Armenia respectively.
Game 1
APR.10 @ Yerevan, Armenia- South Africa 8 Georgia 1
South Africa was in complete and utter control of the game from the onset, Georgia was completely run over by the South Africans, having taken a 5-0 lead after P1.
P2 was the best of the bunch for the Georgians in which they managed to score a well worked goal scored by Vakhhtang Goguchaishvili.
The Georgians resorted to playing a scrappy and defensive style of game piling their 5 players in front of the net in a effort to frustrate the SA's. In the third the Georgians were all out of gas as the fitness level of the team became evident (surely down to a lack of playing time and training). In the end though they couldn't handle a more drilled and fitter South African sqaud.
Game 2
APR.11 @ Yereven, Armenia- Armenia 22 Georgia 1
Don't know much of the details from this game but all I can say is that the Georgian camp is extremely frustrated on how the game went in terms of the officiating and the conduct of the Armenia players who played like a bunch of dogs out there.
Every single call was going against the Georgians and it didn't take a genius to work out that the referee's were extremely in favour of the home team. It got to the point that the Georgian team basically gave up playing because they were so frustrated and actually couldn't even be bothered to play no more as a result of this.
But having said all that the Georgians were no where near in challenging the Armenians.
Overall very proud of the Georgian team performance and effort and hopefully things will imporve and only get better from here on in and eventually one day reach the DIV III championships even though these results don't look too encouraging. :c032:

Enough is enough. That is horses***.Armenia was given twice as many penalties despite the fact by the beginning of the second the georgians were gooning it up(same exact thing they were doing in the Bakuriani despite being ahead in the score): checking from behind, roughing, slashing etc. Armenia showed great discipline in not retaliating against this bush league team.
As to how I know this:I'm a current member of the Armenian NT team(not giving my name) and me and my teammates(25-30 people) have flown back and forth so much in the last 3 years bleeding our bank accounts dry to play in the armenian league and help the development of ice hockey here.I myself have spent 20 months from the last 3 years here. Went to Bakuriani(didnt play because of an injury)and despite being friendly/brotherly off the ice the Bakuriani team(not the Tbilisi one) were a bunch of tools and goons on it. I am very happy about the progress of ice hockey in Georgia but if they keep playing this way someone will retaliate. Other than that keep up the good work bijos.
The mods have seen my IP address for the last 1-2 years now so they know what I'm saying is true, just surprised they haven't called me on it yet.
This will probably be my last post here, sorry I didnt tell the truth from the start.Take care boys and girls.
