Just listened to a Toronto radio station and the guy said just as much as they would like to see Mario Lemieux parade the World Cup trophy, fans in this city would go much excited over a Stanley Cup victory.
For Canadian cities which is more important a Stanley Cup win or winning the World Cup?
That's Toronto, though.
Remember, their last Stanley Cup was in 1967. :shakehead
It's funny, right now I'd rather have a Stanley Cup in Ottawa.
But then again, Canada just won the OG in 2002, and 2 straight World Championships.
It's hard to win the Stanley Cup in some ways because there are 30 teams in the league. The odds are very much against you.
There are probably around 12 of those 30 teams that have a really good chance of winning the Cup.
At the World Cup, there are 6 or 7.
Ottawa has never won a Cup in the modern era. Toronto has never won a Cup since expansion. Vancouver has come close, but never won.
Since the last Canadian Cup in 1993, it's been awhile.
Remember, kids growing up dream of winning the Stanley Cup, not the World Championships or the Olympic Games or even the World/Canada Cup. That's one of the fundamental difference between Europeans who play in the NHL and Canadians.
The NHL is not just a business in Canada. It's our biggest hockey tradition, and the Cup is the symbol of it.

As much as I´ve heard Finnish players interviewed, they´re all saying the same: Their biggest dream of all is to win Stanley Cup. So, maybe we Finns are more Canadien than we know... :023:
No doubt Stanley Cup would make these fans more happy. Canada is expected to win this tournament and it'll be a huge disappointment if they don't. Whereas Stanley Cup is something that Toronto is NOT expected to win. :)

The Stanley Cup is more important than the World Cup. I would love to see our overpaid underachievers a.k.a. the Ottawa Senators have a Stanley Cup parade down Bank Street to Festival Plaza! But since the pinheads have failed to reach any agreement over the CBA, it looks like there will be a loooong lockout! So it will not be any time soon Ottawa will see a Stanley Cup Parade!
The Toronto Maple Leafs are not expected to win the Stanley Cup! And if & when they do, hell has frozen over! :005:

I agree the league must agree on a CBA for 2010/2011 ect.
Or a strike will loom.
