Some news From the Western Hockey League, The Lethbridge Hurricanes & the Kootenay Ice are to play exhibition games Sept 16,17 at the Muliplex in Yellowknife, N.W.T.

The Vancouver Giants will play host to the 2007 memorial cup, which is earmarked for Pacific Coliseum. Vancouver is also host city for the 2006 WJC.

Alex Aldred (http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid%5B%5D=72009), who plays for the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League, had his spleen removed during an emergency operation Tuesday.

The 19-year-old centre, who is expected to make a full recovery in four to six weeks, was injured while attending a conditioning camp in his native Edmonton. Aldred realized something was wrong and his father took him to hospital where the seriousness of the injury was discovered.

The Western Hockey League expansion Chilliwack Bruins have named Jim Hiller the team's first head coach.
The Bruins will become the WHL's 21st team in 2006-07 and the league is conducting an expansion draft Friday.
The Chilliwack franchise is partially owned by Anaheim Mighty Ducks general manager Brian Burke and New York Rangers GM Glen Sather.
Hiller, 37, was head coach of his hometown Alberni Valley Bulldogs the past two seasons with a record of 75-33-12 and prior to that was an assistant coach of the WHL's Tri-City Americans.

He ended his playing career in 2000-01 playing for Milan in the Italian league.

The Tri-City Americans have acquired 20-year-old left wing Ladislav Scurko from the Seattle Thunderbirds for a fourth-round bantam draft pick in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft.

The Moose Jaw Warriors thinned out their overcrowded defence while complicating their 20-year-old situation Tuesday.
The Warriors traded 20-year-old defenceman Cole Simpson to the Prince Albert Raiders for a fifth round pick in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft.

The WHL Player of the Week is forward Brett Robertson of the Prince George Cougars.
Robertson earned player of the week honours by scoring three goals and nine points including a power-play goal in the first four games to begin the 2006-07 Western Hockey League Regular Season.

The 2nd WHL Player of the Week is forward Ben Maxwell of the Kootenay Ice. Maxwell earned player of the week honours by scoring 3 goals and eight points including two power-play goals and a short-handed goal in just 3 games, helping the Ice to a perfect 3-and-0 record last week

The Western Hockey League Chilliwack Bruins and Kamloops Blazers announce tickets sale dates for the 2006 ADT Canada Russia Challenge Western Canada games to be hosted in Chilliwack and Kamloops, BC. The Chilliwack Bruins will play host to the first game of the two WHL games in the series on Wednesday, November 29th at Prospera Center in Chilliwack. The Kamloops Blazers will host the Russia Selects and Team WHL in the final game of the tour on Thursday, November 30th at the Interior Savings Center

Three members of the Moose Jaw Warriors Hockey Club were involved in a serious automobile accident in Moose Jaw.
Two of the players, 19-year-old goaltender Joey Perricone and 18-year-old forward Carter Smith suffered minor injuries and were released from hospital in Moose Jaw on next day's morning.
The third player involved in the accident, 18-year-old forward Garrett Robinson sustained serious head injuries and is in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Regina General Hospital.
The accident occurred early on Sunday, October 22 after the players had just returned home to Moose Jaw following a game Saturday night in Red Deer. The players vehicle was stuck by truck while traveling through an intersection. Charges are pending against the driver of the truck.

The game between Everett Silvertips and Prince George Cougars in Prince George, BC was called due to unsafe ice after the second period.
Team records and statistics will not change until the game is completed.
As of now, the third period will be postponed until Tuesday, February 27th.

The WHL Player of the Week is forward Mark Santorelli of the Chilliwack Bruins. Santorelli earned player of the week honours by scoring 2 goals and 8 points in 4 games, helping the expansion Bruins to a 3-1-0-0 record last week.

The WHL Player of the Week is forward Martin Hanzal of the Red Deer Rebels.

Hanzal earned player of the week honours by recording two goals and eight points, and a plus-3 rating in three games during the week of November 20th to 26th, leading the Rebels to a 2-1 record in that span.

The Western Hockey League today announced that Peter Mueller of the Everett Silvertips has been named the WHL Player of the Month for November.
Mueller, an 18-year-old product of Bloomington, MN, recorded four goals and 21 assists for 25 points in 12 games in the month of November, leading the Silvertips to an 11-1 record in that span.

The Warriors sent overage defenceman and assistant captain Jesse Zetariuk, along with 18-year-old right wing Carter Smith, to the Everett Silvertips for overage defenceman Cody Thoring and 18-year-old right wing Brady Calla.

The Chilliwack Bruins made a major shakeup in their crease late last week, swinging a trade with the Everett Silvertips for 17-year-old goalie Matt Esposito and showing veteran Jim Watt the door.

The Western Hockey League announced that Aaron Gagnon of the Seattle Thunderbirds has been named the WHL Player of the Month for December.

Gagnon recorded 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 points, and boasted a +11 plus/minus rating in 14 games in the month of December, leading the Thunderbirds to an 8-3-0-3 record in that span.

Yeo earned player of the week honours by recording two goals and seven points in three games during the week of January 1st to January 8th

The Vancouver Giants have acquired 19 year-old forward Chris Cloud from the Saskatoon Blades. In exchange, the Giants give up a conditional pick in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.
